During our September meeting I shared with the group how to make their own watercolor paper sketchbook and watercolor block.

I then led them in a texturing exercise that they can later crop out mini paintings that can be turned into cards, bookmarks or trading cards by using their own creative imaginations.

Marjorie tried tea for one of her texturing techniques...and.why not?!?!

As promised I am going to post paintings from the Joseph Fettingis workshop in August. However, the paintings that were emailed to me or were signed I can identify but because my fall has been so busy and I am just now posting them I cannot put a name to many. Anyone that would like to let me know in the comments which are yours, I will put your name to them.

Carol P. paintings:

Sharon R. paintings:

Margorie's paintings

These got to be Lynda's because she is the brave one of the group that loves to paint on yupo:

July Meeting/August Workshop

We had no meeting in June due to the Helen Klebesadel workshop.

Pat Scofeld did a nice review of  the book "Lost Battle" by Jonathan Jones.

Next I  did a demonstration showing the steps to adhering a painting or print to a previously painted canvas, followed by how to seal the finished piece.

We had no meeting in August because of the Joseph Fettingis Workshop.
Joe put on another great and fun workshop.
Workshop Participants

Hopefully next month some members will bring back their finished paintings that I can post on this site.

Our next meeting on Sept. 19th I will be showing some texturing techniques. We will be creating a large sheet of these textures that can then be turned into miniature paintings for trading cards or whatever you wish to do with them.

April / May Meetings

In April, Janet Flynn demonstrated how she approaches developing a painting. She took us step by step through her thought process.

Artist of the Month was presented by Carole Paquette. She shared information about her mother and artist, Jeanne Kurtz. Jeanne was one of the first members from when  SWWS began.

Our Creative Challenge for April was to do a sample complementary color scheme ( two colors opposite on the color wheel).

Here are a couple examples. In both paintings I used the same two colors, an orange and a blue. Depending on how much pigment or water you use can give you a variety of values and intensities.

In May, Char Olson introduced us to painting butterflies on yupo paper

Here are some of the many colorful butterflies that were created.

Joan Krueger shared information about her favorite artist Nancy Noel who is well known for her spiritual and angelic portraits of children.

Lucy Shirek will be participating  in the "Spring Art Tour" June 7-9.

Our Creative Challenge for May was to do a sample using three analogous colors ( three colors next to each other on the color wheel).

In my sample here I used blue-green, blue and blue-purple. Notice how fresh and clean the colors are when you choose analogous colors.

Our next "Creative Challenge" for July will be to do a split complementary color scheme. Because the color wheel is made up of twelve colors you will have twelve choices of what your scheme can be. Choose one, color go directly across the color wheel and find it's complement you then use the color that sits on each side of that complement. Fifteen minutes is all you need to spend on these exercises. They're not necessarily meant to be finished paintings just learning experiences.

March Meeting

This past month Pat Scofield shared her journey in art with us. She brought along early works of her art leading up to her present artworks. It is always interesting to see and hear how an artist evolves.

Joan Konyn demonstrated a Batik Style done in watercolor using masking fluid as a resist.

Here are some of Joan's paintings done using this method.
